04. Cats (Musical) - The Old Gumbie Cat

   Старая домашняя кошка.

   О кошке вспомнить я хочу, чьё имя Дженнивточкахвся.
   Её шерсть пестровата чуть, как тигра или ирбиса.
   Весь день сидит на коврике или на мягком чём-нибудь.
   Она сидит, сидит, сидит - и в том домашней кошки суть.

   Женский хор:
   Но...
   Только утихнет дневной весь бедлам,
   Домашняя кошка приступает к делам.
   Когда вся семья уже готовится спать,
   Она подбирает подол, чтоб начать.
  
   Её занимает поведенье мышей.

   Их манеры грубы, хоть гони их взашей.

   Как только поймает, их в линию строит
   И учит их

   Музыке, вышивке, крою.
  
   Мистофилис:
   О кошке вспомнить я хочу, чьё имя Дженнивточкахвся.
   Одна из кошкиных причуд - на солнцепёке нежиться.
   Весь день сидит у очага, сиденью посвятив досуг.
   Она сидит, сидит, сидит - и в том домашней кошки суть.

   Но...
   Только утихнет дневной весь бедлам,
   Домашняя кошка приступает к делам.
   Волнует её, с чего мыши шуршатся,
   И уверена, нужно

   Им чаще питаться.

   И считая, что
  
   Дженнивточкахвся:
   Выглядят мыши так жалко,

   Она занимается печкой и жаркой.
   Готовит мышам пирожки из бобов
  
   Дженнивточкахвся:
   С начинкой из сыра и яичных желтков.
  
   Мистофилис:
   О кошке вспомнить я хочу, чьё имя Дженнивточкахвся.
   Одной ей только по плечу узлами шторы завязать.
   На подоконнике сидит или на плоском чём-нибудь.
   Она сидит, сидит, сидит - и в том домашней кошки суть.
   В том домашней кошки суть.
  
   Женский хор:
   Но...
   Только утихнет дневной весь бедлам,
   Домашняя кошка приступает к делам.
   Не нравится ей тараканье безделье
   Она отучает их силой от лени.
  
   Она собирает из разнузданных гадов
   Послушных помощников скаут-отряды.
  
   Дженнивточкахвся:
   Желая добра им по жизни сполна,
  
   Женский хор:
   Жучиные марши проводит она!
  
   Общий хор:
   Так скажем старым и добрым кошкам спасибо.
   Без помощи их наше всё хозяйство погибло б!
   Спасибо! Спасибо! Спасибо!
  
   Она прекрасный помощник!

   Правда, спасибо!

   Her equal would be hard to find, she likes the warm and sunny spots
   All day she sits beside the hearth or on the bed or on my hat
   She sits and sits and sits and sits--and that's what makes a gumbie cat

   When the day's hustle and bustle is done
   Then the gumbie cat's work is but hardly begun
   She thinks that the mice will not ever keep quiet; she is sure it is due to

   Irregular diet

   Nothing is done without trying

   She sets right to work with her baking and frying
   She makes them a mouse-cake of bread and dried peas

   And a beautiful fry of lean bacon and cheese!

   I have a gumbie cat in mind, her name is Jennyanydots
   The curtain cord she likes to wind and tie it into sailor knots
   She sits upon the window sill or anything that's smooth and flat
   She sits and sits and sits and sits and that's what makes a gumbie cat
   That's what makes a gumbie cat
  
   Female chorus:
   But...
   When the day's hustle and bustle is done
   Then the gumbie cat's work is but hardly begun
   She thinks that the cockroaches need employment
   To prevent them from idle and wanton destroyment
  
   So she's formed from that lot of disorderly louts
   A troop of well disciplined helpful boy scouts
  
   Jennyanydots:
   With a purpose in life and a good deed to do
  
   Female chorus:
   And she's even created a beetles tattoo!

   So for old gumbie cats let us now give three cheers
   On whom well-ordered households depend it appears

   For she's a jolly good fellow!
