My advice to professor Sabine Gaudzinski-Windheuser - it is needed to you to change profession. Perhaps for your museum cleaners or watchmen are needed.

Why did I get so hot and bothered after reading this stupid article!?
Because this is not just an article written by a "scientist" who, most likely, passed all the exams by carefully preparing a demonstration of lace panties through the slit of the dress.

This is a modern trend of global degradation, when people declare persistently "the right of a scoundrel over a man" and "the right of a corrupt moron to replicate their own images and likeness".

This is especially clearly seen in the example of the natural "sciences", in which one's incompetence can be easily explained by a "special view of the problem", gracefully protrude own finger or ass out.

What always strikes me most it is the self-satisfied stupidity of "scientist" historians. Especially it is about anthropologists.

   I am a survivalist

It was enough for me to look on this photo of the bone with incisions, over which you defiantly positioned yourself with your ass up and the photo of the fake elephant near which you advertised yourself (the elephant impressed me ... you - no) for to understand

   "WHAT... HOW AND WHY"

   Your article is complete nonsense.

There was no army of Neanderthals attacking such an elephant. There were probably four hunters.
Such an overgrown elephant is completely defenseless in front of skilled hunters.

The hunting zones of the Neanderthals, most likely, was the tundra or forest-tundra - this is soft and marshy ground.
This can be seen from the widened feet of the elephant.

In such areal there are many shallow peat bogs with permafrost underlying them.
The elephant was not afraid of such peat bogs and went through out them, instinctively feeling whether there were holes and hollows.
The speed of movement of such a large animal on marshy ground is slow.

The two hunters should be beginning to scream and grimace in front of the elephant, without exposing themselves to the risk of falling under the blow of the trunk. Two should be sneaked up behind and struck at the Achilles tendons.
If the blows did not reach the goal immediately and the elephant attacked the rear hunters, then they retreated and the hunters who had previously been in front of the elephant tried to cut the tendons.
This will continue until the elephant's hind legs gave way and he fell into the swamp.
For all elephants, blood loss and damage to the Achilles tendons are very dangerous.

A family of Neanderthals, and there weren't more than 8-10 people (is apparently three generations along with children) have being butchering elephant to pieces right in this swamp and is drowned the meat in peat (it is a fairly good preservative), close as possible at the permafrost (T* is from -4 to -6 *C). The family have built up hut near to the swamp, with a frame made of the bones of the same elephant and its skin, and ate this meat for a one and half or two years.
They drive predators away by fire. The two-legged rivals preyed on their luckier counterparts and, if situation was unfortunate to those, might eat as well.

Such highly specialized hunting (once in every three years) implied complete defenselessness against any climatic change, and intraspecific parasitism and cannibalism create for them complete defenselessness against Prion diseases.

   PS
