    The Russian love song `Don`t go away, do stay with me` was composed, written and dedicated to Anastassiya Vyaltzeva by Nikolai Vladimirovich Zubov (1867- after 1906) in 1899. IMHO, the best performers of the romance song were Varya Panina before the Revolution https://youtu.be/4fsp71A9Y5U (once a great Russian artist Valentin Serov explained to Feodor Chaliapin that there was a singer much better than Chaliapin was (he meant Varya Panina) and operatic singer Ivan Burlak (1893-1964) (to the guitar accompanimen of Nikolai Nikolayevich Kruchinin) in 1945 https://youtu.be/56qxvbchJ0I

Nikolai Vladimirovich Zubov was in mad and unrequited love with Anastassiya Vyaltzeva. She refused him, but he couldn`t ever put up with it.
Zubov tried to prove he was the only right man for Vyaltzeva, to make her realize that she was wrong when she refused him. Inspired by his love
Zubov composed 100 pieces, love songs, piano works, but all was in vain. Only later he knew that she`d been secretly married to a military
officer Biskupski. Alas, love cannot be forced, and it finished him. None heard anything about him after 1906, he disappeared. He was likely to
have shared a sad fate of Georgiy Zheltkov, a title hero of The Garnet Bracelet by Alexandre Kuprin. Who knows? Why not? The short story was written
in 1910 when Vyaltzeva passed away, and it was based on a true story. The name of the man who committed suicide due to the unhappy love was Zheltikov.
That paradigm of love relations characterises the start of the 20 c. That way of love had been in vogue in life and the art before the WW1. Poor Zubov
failed to make the then Russian pop superstar feel her having been wrong. But that hormonic irregularity favoured harmony at the least. It would have
been much worse if he`d simply shot her dead without all that jazz, fire and desire. The diva presented an opportunity of getting pleasures of the flesh
to the other man, so Zubov had no chance to exert himself as a lover in bed. By the way, the second stanza of the love song above should have
read in a more literal version of my translation like this:

Don`t go away, do stay with me,
I`ve been in love with you so long,
I`ll burn and tire you, cherie,
With fire of my love, so strong!
Please stay with me,
Please stay with me.

Не уходи, побудь со мною,
Я так давно тебя люблю.
Тебя я лаской огневою
И обожгу и утомлю.

Well, well, well! The third strophe might have read better as well, and undoubtedly much more literal if I`d translated it in that way before:

Don`t go away, do stay with me,
My chest`s afire with love`s flame,
Delight of passion I`ll give thee*,
Don`t go away, don`t go away!
Please stay with me.
Please stay with me.

Не уходи, побудь со мною,
Пылает страсть в моей груди.
Восторг любви нас ждет с тобою..
