The Coin of Kazimir Malevich (10 kopecks of 1906). An antiquarian story.

The Coin of Kazimir Malevich (10 kopecks of 1906). An antiquarian story.

In April 1911, the head of the family (with his daughter) made a trip to St. Petersburg.

One day they visited an art exhibition.

At the entrance to the exhibition there was a large charity "mug" to collect donations for philanthropic purposes.

Father and daughter stopped. The father decided to drop a few coins into the "mug".

At this time, a man approached the "mug" - apparently a man of art - and made an attempt to put a coin into the "mug".

The keys lying in his pocket disturbed his attempt.

He shifted the keys to another pocket, took out a coin and dropped it into a charity "mug".

The daughter saw how, when the artist was shifting the keys, a coin jumped out and fell to the ground.

Being much younger than the stranger, the girl found it possible to pick up the fallen coin and try to return it to the artist.

The man looked attentively at the girl and at her father, bowed slightly and said:

  - Dziękuję pani! Maybe you will buy an art brochure? Here, it seems, are sold ... Thank you for your courtesy!

The man did not take the coin and went to the exhibition.

"Malevich! Kazimir Malevich!" - someone nearby said.

The name was unfamiliar, but something in the intonation, in the pronunciation of the name "Malevich" made the girl to preserve the coin.

The father put coins in a charity "mug" from himself and from his daughter, and they went to the exhibition.

At the exhibition, they approached Malevich's painting "Landscape". They looked silently... They smiled... People of art see the world in a special way...

My belief in this story is similar to the belief of Heinrich Schliemann that the heroes of Homer touched objects he found in Greece.

Approximately one hundred years later, the Malevich Coin (10 kopecks of 1906) passed to me by inheritance.

I have to put this coin up for sale.

I'll write a sale announcement and post it online.

... I compiled the text of the sale announcement:

"The Coin of Kazimir Malevich (10 kopecks of 1906). (1906 - the period of reign of Emperor Nicholas II). The coin made of white metal, presumably of silver. But I did not conduct a chemical analysis of the metal and an examination of authenticity.

Coin condition: 116 years (2022-1906=120) left their marks. The coin looks to a certain extent not bad.

  [Information from the Internet:

  Description of the coin:

The Obverse: In the upper part Reverse: a crown of the Russian Empire...

The Reverse: The center of the obverse is occupied by the small coat of arms of the Russian Empire - the double-headed eagle...

  Coin characteristics:

  Metal: Silver

  Weight: 1.80 g

  Proof: 500

  Weight of silver: 0.9 g ].

  Price, RUB: 25 000

  The Literary Certificate included [attached].

  Pickup, mail.

The level of the price may be discussed."

(The authenticity of the silver and the authenticity of the coins have not been verified and cannot be guaranteed by the seller. The seller makes judgments and estimates, expresses opinions as an ordinary, a regular (simple, average) participant in the commodity turnover; the seller does not have special knowledge about coins, he is not an expert in a (sphere of) numismatic sciences and issues.)
