Аннотация: The Coin of Leo Tolstoy (10 kopecks of 1909). An antiquarian story.
The Coin of Leo Tolstoy (10 kopecks of 1909). An antiquarian story.
One day in November 1910, a numerous family gathered in the evening in a large room.
One of the brothers entered the room:
- I was returning home now. A man is sitting on the steps. Turns out he's a pilgrim. He walks to Astrakhan. I invited him to come in, to relax, to eat.
The father of the family nodded his head approvingly:
- When he goes further, offer him ten rubles ... They will be useful to him on the road ...
The next morning the family gathered for breakfast.
- The pilgrim left early in the morning, - the brother said, - I gave him ten rubles ... as you said, dad ... He gave me a matchbox with a coin. He says that he was in the monastery when Tolstoy arrived there. At the entrance to the gates of the monastery, Tolstoy distributed several coins in the form of alms. One of the coins went to our guest-pilgrim. "I will lose this coin on the road, - he said. - It will be a pity if this happens. This is a Tolstoy's coin... Let this coin be kept in your family...".
Everyone silently looked at the box and at the coin. It was 10 kopecks of 1909. Then the coin was put in closet.
I believe in this version, as Heinrich Schliemann believed in the touches of Homer's characters to the objects discovered by Schliemann in Greece.
Unlike a matchbox, the coin - due to its small weight and small size - managed to survive, to "reach" our days. This coin came to me by inheritance.
I'll have to put it up for sale...
I will make an announcement, will post it on the Internet...
... I compiled the text of the sale announcement:
"The Coin of Leo Tolstoy (10 kopecks of 1909). (1909 - the period of reign of Emperor Nicholas II). The coin made of white metal, presumably of silver. But I did not conduct a chemical analysis of the metal and an examination of authenticity.
Coin condition: 113 years (2022-1909=113) left their marks. The coin looks to a certain extent not bad.
