At the scene, together with the military and emergency workers, Khabarovsk scientists also moved forward. One of them was Alexey Makhinov - Deputy Director for research at the Institute of water and environmental problems of Feb RAS. On the eve of the Russian defense Minister Sergei Shoigu gave him an award for the elimination of the consequences of the emergency situation on the Bureya river.

Later, Alexey Makhinov held a large conference, where he spoke in detail about the work done. It was he who called the cataclysm a landslide, and also told about the tsunami height of 60 meters, which broke the trees. The result of the work was highly appreciated by the Russian defense Minister. For this Sergei Shoigu awarded the scientist with the medal "Participant of liquidation of consequences of emergency situation on the Bureya river".
- Alexey Makhinov described a detailed picture of the events that took place in the valley of the Bureya river. Military were awarded at once, and here the person who explained everything, - no. So one of the Board members of our Department sent a letter to Shoigu. The defense Minister gladly agreed to rectify the situation and promptly sent the medal. The day before it was handed to Alexei Makhinov at our meeting, - said Natalia Fisher, a member of the Council of the Khabarovsk regional branch of the RGO.

The Government of the Russian Federation will pay the Ministry of Defence for elimination of a blockage on Bureya
The Government of the Russian Federation allocated from the reserve fund 872 million rubles for compensation of the expenses incurred by the Ministry of Defence at mitigation of consequences of collapse of the rocky massif to the Bureya Reservoir.
It is stated in the government resolution published on the portal of legal information.
- For compensation of the expenses incurred when performing a task of mitigation of consequences of the emergency situation which developed as a result of the collapse of the rocky massif to the Bureya River to allocate in 2019 the Russian Defense Ministry from reserve fund Governments of the Russian Federation budgetary appropriations of 872043.2 thousand rubles - it is told in the document.
It is also noted that the funds are aimed at replenishing the spent engineering ammunition and other materials. The Ministry of defence has been instructed to monitor the targeted and effective use of the allocated funds and submit a report on this by February 1, 2020.

The Minister of Defence Sergey Shoygu reported on February 27 that the military personnel cleared away about 500 thousand cubic meters of the rocky breeds which fell to Bureya. The threat for settlements of Khabarovsk Krai, automobile and railway communications was completely eliminated...
Let's remind that at the end of April scientists predicted risk of a repeated landslide on the Bureya River. The Emercom of Russia helicopter brought scientists for situation assessment to the place of a landslide in Verkhnebureinsky district. Experts confirmed that there is a probability of a repeated descent, but its volumes will be several orders less.
