The Story about the two-series dream regarding a d'Anthes' button

The Story about the two-series dream regarding a d'Anthes' button

Paul E. Shchegolev was fond of preparation of the biographic book about Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin.

The book so fascinated Paul Eliseevich that some stages of literary work came to him in a dream.

Before writing of fragments of the text about Konstantin Karlovich Danzas, Alexander Pushkin's second, Paul Eliseevich has seen, that already a late night came.

Shchegolev has decided to have a sleep a little.

Paul Eliseevich has fallen asleep, and he saw a some not clear dream.

Pushkin couldn't be shooting with d'Anthes without second. And the second has been found.

  Who? Konstantin Danzas!

And an uncertain, a wavering, a not clear, a fluctuating image appeared in front of Paul Eliseevich.

How this the second was "found"? Some historical sources (most) say one thing. Other (Vasily Zhukovsky) - other (but Zhukovsky says in details and consistently). There is no clarity. And the question is not a simple.

First, a second, a participant of a duel, could after this participation be seriously punished, according to existing Russian regulations.

Secondly, a participation in itself in a duel is an organizationally and psychologically difficult action. On some memoirs, Georges d'Anthes, the opponent of Pushkin, after departure from Russia "was appreciated" as the "specialist" in duels. In Europe duels in certain circles still long time took place. The duel differed also from a training firing in a dash, and from a sports fencing in any hall. Not everyone were ready by a psychological construction, by a life experience - to prepare and to carry out a duels, that to everything was made by rules. Dantes, it seems, was considered as the valuable person in this really difficult kind of activity.

Thirdly, a certain relation to the Pushkin's duels took shape in so-called Russian society of that time. The calls were sending, but because of set of circumstances the calls to a duels were losing force.

Anyway, but the second - a position responsible.

From where "has" he, K.K. Danzas, "appeared" as the second?

Paul Eliseevich continued to turn over from side to side, but the Konstantin Danzas's figure blurred and fluctuated.

It is clear, that Pushkin and Danzas were familiar - even since their study in youth. But Pushkin knew many people...

They lived in different "worlds" ... Danzas was a serviceman [engineer lieutenant colonel], and acted, it seems, in an engineering sphere ...

"In 1833 Danzas has been appointed the aide-de-camp to the director of construction department, which was specialized on a works for Navy. In five years he has been transferred to the St. Petersburg engineering team, already in the lieutenant colonel's rank, but in two months has been transferred to the Caucasus in the Tengin infantry regiment with which he participated in military expeditions... In 1838 and 1839 Danzas participated in all major military expeditions on east coast of the Black Sea".

Danzas was poor? There are such mentions ... But actual data don't support this statement ... And what means "was poor"? Money is rarely too much...

A service of an officer - a business difficult, and not always profitable ... ("In the Turkish war [Konstantin Danzas] has received the captain's rank for a brave act. In 1828 in fight under Brailov's walls has been wounded in the left shoulder with a crushing of a bone; in June of the same year has been awarded with a gold semi-saber with an inscription "for bravery".)

But the lieutenant colonel in the engineering sphere hardly belongs to the circle of a most needing officers ...

The elder brother gave material support? are no data About this. Boris Karlovich Danzas, elder brother of Konstantin Karlovich. "The member of the secret decembrist organization... (1825)... He was arrested in Moscow on January 9, 1826, taken to the Peter and Paul fortress, but on January 23 he was ordered to let go, holding on the guardhouse for one month.

He has retired on April 26, 1828, but since October 24, 1829 - again the official of special instructions at D.V. Golitsyn.

After Boris Danzas in 1835 has been defined at an ober-public prosecutor's desk in the 1st office of the 5th department of the senate, his active participation in numerous legislative works has begun. In 1838 he, already - the valid councilor of state, has been appointed the chief prosecutor of the 2nd department of the senate, and on April 2, 1839 - the director of the department of the Ministry of Justice ... In 1847 he has received a rank of the privy councilor [corresponds to a military rank of the lieutenant general] and on September 13, 1851 has been appointed senator".

Konstantin Danzas hasn't started a family?. Such judgment also meets ... But here the great playwright A.N. Ostrovsky not the small period of time has lived with the woman without marriage registration ... How to understand such a situation? Has started a family or hasn't created?

On March 26, 1844 Konstantin Danzas became the colonel. In 1857 [!!!] he have retired with assignment of the rank of Major General.

Konstantin Danzas, allegedly, lived on pension. Whether lived in misery?

Data in literature on the general's pensions meet sometimes. Not millions, of course. But at reasonable use, the leader of the resisting Russian monarchy party, who was living abroad, could even be financed (partially).

And preparation of the duel on the Chernaya River (the Black river), and her carrying out ... It is a lot of publications on this subject ... A number of authors formulates claims and reproaches to Konstantin Danzas-second ...

  Various reproaches. They are proved?

At the street some noise happened. Paul Eliseevich who was sleeping in a shallow sleep, woke up. The first series of his sleeping dream ended. He has drunk several drinks of water.

Then he have again fallen asleep.

And here he see the second series of a sleeping dream. Has passed after 1837, after the duel on the Black small river (when Konstantin Danzas was a second), more than twenty years. A certain A.N. Ammosov [(1823 - 1866)], it seems, the major [captain lieutenant], in fact, not famous to anybody, who has allegedly published several poems, to nobody known, has suddenly entered the Russian literary history. He, A.N. Ammosov, has published in 1863 [!!!], in St. Petersburg, the book "The last days of life and Alexander Pushkin's death" ["The last days of life and the death of Alexander Pushkin. According to his former Lyceum comrade and second Konstantin Danzas."].

However it would be strange if a major who wasn't knowing personally Alexander Pushkin, the major who is almost not connected with literature would publish the BOOK on such subject.

Yes! Ammosov has received data from Konstantin Danzas!

Konstantin Danzas during lifetime of whom this book has been published (Danzas has lived till 1870), hasn't stated any objections concerning contents of this book. Konstantin Danzas's silence has partly confirmed the truth of words, that has been written by Ammosov with reference to Danzas.

"During the Caucasian campaigns 1859-1863 years!!!], A. N. Ammosov is under the command of Konstantin Danzas, the former second Pushkin, who was exiled to the Caucasus "failure to report" about the duel. From Konstantin Danzas, he learns the details of this duel. This details formed subsequently the basis of his book "the Last days of life and death of Alexander Pushkin". During The Polish uprising of 1863 [!!!] A. N. Ammosov was part of the Russian army in Poland. In the last years of life an. Ammosov was the director of the Chamber of state property of Volyn province. A. N. Ammosov died at the age of 43 [1866], as it was reported in Newspapers of that time "because of wounds received at protection of the Fatherland". The place of his burial is unknown."

"Has remained many poems as published and unpublished which are attributed his [Ammosova] to a feather. On his verses M.P. Mussorgsky, K.N. Lyadov and other composers of that time wrote romances. In the fifties the 19th century several his poems were published in the "Russky Invalid" newspaper and in a satirical Annex to "The Contemporary" - "The Whistle".

In 1861 - 1866 A.N. Ammosov was much published in the comic edition "Entertainment" (SPb). There are data that A.N. Ammosov also took part in Kozma Prutkov's creativity, and in particular, he is the author of the fable "Shepherd, Milk and Reader" published in the collection".

"In 1863 he was involved in military operations? In 1866 he was publishing his works in the comic edition and was the managing director of the Chamber of state property of Volyn province? In 1866 has died?"

Some difficult visions began to intertwine in Paul Eliseevich's dream.

Not a clear, a fluctuating the Konstantin Danzas's image suddenly has doubled. The Ammosov's image?

Paul Eliseevich has seen before himself the book by Ammosov about Pushkin. Also Paul Shchegolev dreams that he thumbs through and reads the book by A.N. Ammosov. Through the each second page or questions, or doubts, or belief about small reliability of any statement ...

Of these visions Paul Eliseevich hasn't really well felt and has woken up. The second series of his dream has come to the end.

He has made toilet and has sat down at a desk.

"What do I know, the indisputable, about Konstantin Danzas?".

"Probably, definitely it is possible to tell that Danzas, whether he though the Lieutenant Colonel though the General, in the conditions of the Nicolas the First's regime was before the administration a person absolutely defenseless, dependent and vulnerable". "Yes, with Pushkin he was familiar...". "According the sum of any circumstances (exactly not known), he became the Pushkin's second ...".

"And if he was not "found", not "appeared"? Georges d'Anthes accused, probably, Pushkin of disrupting the duel, in violation of dueling rules? Without a second, the duel would not be possible..."

"The duel would not took place?"

"The book allegedly written by Ammosov, allegedly on the basis of the information provided by Danzas, is very, very strange..."

"Pushkin had a sincere love for his friend and schoolmate at the Lyceum and, dying, gave him a ring from his own hand, with which the second of poet did not part until the last days of his life. From the words of Konstantin Danzas, who was present at the death of A. S. Pushkin, I. A. Amosov wrote a well-known brochure: "The Last hours of Alexander Pushkin from the words of Konstantin Danzas" SPb. 1863".

"For fulfillment of his second's duty at the duel of Pushkin, which took place on January 27, 1837... Danzas was first sentenced to a hanging. ... The Emperor then commuted this sentence to only two additional months of arrest in the Peter and Paul fortress, which was the usual practice at the time in dueling cases. Danzas was released on may 19, 1837, and in 1839, just two years after the duel, he was awarded the order of St. Stanislav of the 2nd degree; in 1840, additionally to this order was granted the Imperial crown [an element of an order]."

  "He fought in the Caucasus?"

"I will better distract my attention from the Danzas-second ...".

"I will switch to a subject of a dress button of d'Anthes ... To that "button" which someone "remember" that it "has stopped" the well-aimed bullet, sent to Georges d'Anthes by the fatally wounded, the fainting Pushkin ...".

"So, who saw her, this dress button?."

'Конту́зия (лат. contusio 'ушиб') - особый вид общего поражения организма, который возникает при внезапном непрямом воздействии на всё тело, или на его обширные участки. Чаще всего возникает от взрывной воздушной волны'.
"A contusion (Latin contusio "has hurt") - a special type of the general defeat of an organism which arises at sudden indirect impact on all body, or on his extensive sites. Most often arises from a blast air wave".

P.E. Shchegolev has prepared a clean sheets of paper before himself.
