Vladimir Vasilievich and an employee of SMERSH (in connection of the joint safeguard of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant). A story.

Vladimir Vasilievich and an employee of SMERSH (in connection of the joint safeguard of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant). A story.

Several times Vladimir Vasilievich recalled his relative (but not a blood relative, but a relative "as a result of social, marriage ties"), who participated in the Battle of Stalingrad and was involved in the capture of Generalfeldmarschall Friedrich Paulus.

This man was a SMERSH officer. According to his story, at some point he received an order to prepare the surrender of Field Marshal Paulus.

With a group of subordinates, after preliminary negotiations (possibly by radio), he arrived up to the location of Paulus.

The story featured a gate. Due to the age (distancing in time) of events and stories, it is already difficult to remember: either the gates were opened by the German guards, or the officer and his subordinates had to climb over them.

The fact is that they, the soldiers of the Red Army, had to pass by the armed soldiers of the Wehrmacht. In the story, for example, there were a sentries with machine guns.

These story tellings took place after the end of the war of 1941-1945. Vladimir Vasilievich was then probably 15-16 years old. He managed to look at the war in its real manifestations and treated its official participants with special respect. (He, like his mother, a young woman, participants in the defense of Rostov in November 1941, apparently, did not consider themselves a participants in the war requiring special respect).

(When, already in the 60-70s of the 20th century, one or two publications about this episode from the defense of Rostov on November 1941 were squeezed into the regional newspaper, when the participants in the battles and events were still alive, - the authorities reacted to the information in two ways:

representatives of the military commissariat and of the veterans' organization asked questions in the style of "so what do you want?",

and the authorities of the city (and the region?) installed something like a stele with a foggy silhouette of a military man in a helmet and with a machine gun approximately at the place of the battle and called this place "Komsomolskaya Square".

It was a politically sound decision. On the one hand, if somehow the situation gets a public outcry, they can always hide behind this activity of theirs: they erected a monument and named the square, as it were, in honor of the events. And on the other hand, the soldiers (out of November 1941), those, who were in uniform, - they probably already had some kind of military awards and the status of participants in hostilities, and Yuzefa Adamovna Zalessky (mother) and Zalessky (son - that is, - Vladimir Vasilievich) - they were left without words of official gratitude, and without state awards and without the status of participants in the Great Patriotic War (of course, many prominent statesmen and military figures, - Catherine and Elizabeth, for example, - they directly descended from the Skavronskys, - but one should not forget about the "Polish interventionists" of 1612 either ... (These "interventionists" invited by the official boyar government are remembered tirelessly). So the authorities needed to keep their nose along a wind. For the sake of justice, it should be said that Vladimir Vasilievich's mother, nevertheless, was a widow of disabled veteran of the Great Patriotic War, and she - at least one time - took the official advantage for people with such a status).

Thus, Vladimir Vasilievich listened with timidity and reverence to the stories of his relative about the capture of Paulus.

When the sentries (Wehrmacht soldiers) with machine guns were mentioned, he asked a relative a naive question:

  - "Wasn't it scary? They could shoot..."

  - "A war, Volodya," the officer replied.

From the story of the SMERSH officer, it followed that armed servicemen of the Red Army were placed next to the armed sentries of the Wehrmacht, and for some time they stood nearby.

Then the Wehrmacht soldiers were taken away somewhere.

Only the soldiers of the Red Army remained.

Then higher-ranking officials appeared, and the role of a relative of Vladimir Vasilievich was exhausted on this. Personally, he did not seem to be in contact with the very Paulus ...

Vladimir Vasilievich recalled that this man, when arranging his family affairs, invited Vladimir Vasilievich to some kind of "official" role.

This man, possibly a member of the Communist Party, came to the church in a uniform and with military orders. It was Stalin's time, but Vladimir Vasilievich did not notice any embarrassment or hesitation in the behavior of this person.

Further, Vladimir Vasilievich had to study at a technical school (where he was succeeded to repair a kind of Enigma), at a technical institute (which he graduated with honors and almost got distributed to the Council of Ministers, or to the Baltic republics), to work at a mine covered with poisonous dust in the deserts of Kazakhstan in a society of people who have committed serious violent crimes - instead of hunting tigers in Central Asia. Perhaps, due to all these circumstances, communication with a participant in the Battle of Stalingrad was minimized - in any case, no significant stories remained in my memory. Something very vague was mentioned about this man's family affairs - he discovered something related to his first wife after the retreat of the German troops and got divorced. And the girl he courted (before entering into a second marriage) lived in barracks, these were crowded human hives. Somehow he had to linger (before the wedding) - he slept in the yard of the barrack, on the fresh air ...).

Today, when I heard about the "joint protection" of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, I remembered the story about joint patrols (sentries).

An uncontrollable Fuhrer was towering over Paulus. Fuhrer did not want to perceive reality - which contributed to Paulus' disaster.

Most likely, the analogy is fragmentary, partial and very conditional...
