I FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS MORNING
(English translation of Я влюбился в это утро)
I fell in love with this morning,
Where the birches sleep in dreams,
And the world is wrapped in dawning
In a silence none redeems.
On the leaves and on the catkins -
Wonder, stillness, soft and deep -
As if all were but a game,
Not my sleeping city's sleep.
From afar, a timid whistling
Of the birds that wake and stir;
Like a hieroglyph, a glist'ning
Swallow streaks the sky - a blur.
Clouds with stormy blue are spilling
On the rim of earth their hue.
July, drunk with moisture, thrilling,
Melts the green and blue anew.
Very early, still, and tender,
Curled-up world, so mild and deep,
Gathers strength in sweet surrender,
Like a beast before its leap.
